Do you know exactly what kind of jewelry you have? Do you know what it is currently worth? It’s important to find out. Appraising your fine jewelry is my privilege. I will ensure you understand exactly what you have and what it is worth. I will evaluate your jewelry using the worldwide standards and state of the art equipment. Your appraisal document will contain professional photographs, detailed measurements, and accurate values for each piece of jewelry. Most importantly, you will walk away with a jewelry appraisal that gives you the right information to make your own decisions.
Why do I need a jewelry appraisal?
Receipts from a jewelry store are not enough to protect you. Current, independent jewelry appraisals by GIA gemologists are needed for
- Insurance coverage
- Estate, trust and inheritance settlement
- Internet purchases
- Charitable contributions
- Loss claims
- Divorce settlements
Did you know that most insurance policies cover only $2,000-$3,000 of jewelry unless a separate appraisal is on file? Without a jewelry appraisal, how would you share pieces among family? How can you decide if it is worth repairing a piece? Having accurate information is especially relevant because few know the insides of the jewelry industry.
What is the appraisal process?
Getting a jewelry appraisal is really straightforward. When you give me a call, I’ll ask you a little bit about what you have and what kind of appraisal you might need. If you don’t know, that’s okay! We can figure it out together in person.
We will set an appointment for you to bring your jewelry piece(s) into my fully equipped office. When you arrive we will take a quick look at the piece and decide the right course of action. Then, you can enjoy a coffee or a good book while I get to work! When I appraise your piece I will be looking at the components, the workmanship and the quality. Together, this information will help me research and establish the right value range for each item. You’ll receive a report that has a full technical description, quality and value data and professional pictures to identify your piece. With your jewelry appraisal in hand you can determine whether you want to keep, sell or consign your piece. You’ll have the information you need to make your own decision.
